Dipiction of Franz Anton Mesmer

The thought of Hypnosis being mind control has always been funny to me because if it where I would only need to Hypnotize one very rich person and then I would be set for life... Unless I choose world domination... then I might do a group hypnosis session at a United Nations meeting or something. The thing is There is nothing further than the truth than Hypnosis being a mean to control anyone's will or behavior!
It always makes me laugh when I see an ad that is pushing a Hypnosis and mind control book or program on you. The nature of hypnosis being a focused state of concentration where one can hear and remember everything that is said goes a long way to explain why it simply is not mind control but lets explore it a little more...
Suggestibility
Suggestibility or suggestion is a great way to call the tid bits the hypnotist gives you as he suggests a certain behavior or action. That means that you can reject it, misunderstand (then do something else) or act upon it. One may act upon a suggestion that seems ridiculous when hypnotized as part of a stage show but keep in mind people volunteer and sometimes even run up to the stage! They obviously want to obey the suggestions! Now in a clinical setting imagine someone who would really want to stop smoking, loose weight, get over a nervous tic or anything else really...the person obviously wants help with what they come for, now imagine how dramatic those changes can be! Now would a professional Hypnotist like myself ask you to do something foolish when you come to stop smoking would it work...no, you would probably just emerge yourself and leave. Hypnosis is all about trust ans expectancy so if your at a show expecting to just have fun and use your imagination you would do all those things and enjoy them because the context makes it all appropriate. On the other hand if you come for clinical hypnosis you would simply expect to be treated appropriately and for that reason would reject any foolish suggestions. When your hypnotized in a clinical setting respect should be the Hypnotist's number one priority and as such I would suggest that you choose a Hypnotist that is certified and a member in good standing of the National Guild of Hypnotist (www.ngh.net).

But wait. If they come to you and say "Control my mind, because I can't" would you call that mind control?
Sure sounds like it to me.

He he, I like your sense of humor! It might sound like mind control but the whole concept of controlling someone's mind implies that since you control it that you do not need for him to give you permission...If you need that you don't have control!
By definition mind control is controlling of someone's mind and as such would not need for someone to give you permission or even know that your doing it and even covert hypnosis cannot bend someone to your will, it simply asks for control in ways more likely to succeed unless the person's values and beliefs go against the suggestion.
As a mentalist and conversational hypnotist some of my effects can give the impression that I have full control of someone's actions till the subject rejects a suggestion that they simply don't agree with and then the effect is much less spectacular.
Event two twins that were raised exactly the same way in the same environment could not control each other even knowing what the other wants to hear and using Covert Hypnosis and everything...they are least likely to fail but they will if they ask something that goes beyond what the subject is ready to do and without full compliance...there is no mind control possible.
Mind conditioning does however exists and is essentially summarized in a boot camp of sorts where you would be made to believe certain things and this type of stuff is done in torture camps and all but that simply is not Hypnosis and still does not meet the definition of mind control. As torture camps are punitive if you don't agree with the beliefs, chances are you would be more compliant and everyone knows that, but!
Real Mind control which is complete control with no need for permission or desire from the Controlled subject simply does not exist in any form.
Now is hypnosis even close to being one of the strongest things to create compliance? No as a military Sgt. can say one word "Go!" and a soldier will run through a field gun blazing because of the boot camp conditioning effect.
Hypnosis could never make that happen!
Now if the man asks you to ask him to run in a dangerous situation like that would he do it? Of course! Did you make him do it? Nope he was willing to go in the first place, thats why he asked you!
